High school civics test bill advances

The Iowa Senate thinks a passage of civics exam should be mandatory to graduate for every high school student. Members voted 38-12 Wednesday for the measure that requires a 60-percent score or better to pass. The test would be available to students each school year, and 7th and 8th graders could take it. The proposal begins with students graduating in 2020. It now goes to the House.
