Ames City Council gets pedestrian safety study

The Ames City Council got a report Tuesday night on the second phase of a pedestrian traffic safety study in Campustown. Consultant Bill Troe says the city could improve the 35 percent compliance rate at the Welch Ave. and Lincoln Way intersection by taking out a raised median. He also says the city should consider making improvements and installing a crosswalk at the heavily used Lincoln Way and Stanton Ave. intersection. The conultant firm says the city should also adjust the timing of traffic lights through Campustown to ensure better pedestrian and traffic flow. The council directed city staff to report back with price tags on the median and crosswalk work.
