Ames Police officials say active shooter training involving students in Ames schools will be done as appropriately as possible. Cmdr. Geoff Huff says coversations with school administrators after last week's mass shooting in Parkland, Florida make the local training especially timely. He says kids in 2018 know the possibility of a school shooting is a reality for them. Huff says there's no specific timeline for student-involved training. School district officials say parents not comfortable with thier kids being part of the training can opt out.
