Ames police say the man hit by a train near Duff Ave. Saturday night is from Mason City. Joe Anthony Zavala, 54, was found south of the railroad tracks suffering from life-threatening injuries. They say he was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center and was later flown to a hospital in Des Moines. The man's condition still isn't known. Police are treating the incident that closed the crossing for several hours as an accident.
