"Fetal heartbeat" abortion bill advances

A Statehouse bill that would ban abortions in Iowa after the fetus' heartbeat is detected is closer to becoming law.  A Senate subcommittee passed the bill Thursday sending it to the full Judiciary Committee.  The bill would make it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion once a heartbeat has been detected unless the mother's life is in danger.  Several people gave passionate testimony on both sides of the debate during Thursday's hearing.
