The Ames police department is getting ready to roll out its latest piece of equipment. Commander Geoff Huff says every officer will wear a body camera while on patrol by late spring or early summer, even though it's been funded for more than a year. He says early body cams had poor video quality and short battery life. Huff says the department has developed a policy regarding when the cameras will be turned on and off. He says they'll be on during the investigation of a crime or criminal complaint. Huff says the department wants to have body cameras in the field by early July.
