The Iowa Department of Corrections is investigating the attack on a staff member at the state penitentiary at Fort Madison Thursday. A corrections officer was searching an inmate's cell when the inmate tried to punch the officer. The officer and another corrections officer in the area were able to subdue the inmate. The corrections officer was treated for scratches and bruises from the attack. The inmate was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment of injuries sufferred in the fight. The Fort Madison prison's been put on "restricted movement" for the time being.
