Police agencies across Iowa are advising people to be careful not to tip thieves off as to the new holiday gifts. Officials say leaving electronics, toys and other gift boxes at the curb for pickup is like advertising to a burglar. It may be a hassle, but to dispose of a box, it's good to cut it into smaller pieces and bundle it to make the item less easy to identify. If it's available, it's even better to take gift boxes, especially bigger box items, to a recycling center.
