Tax issues seem to be the dominant topic as Iowa lawmakers prepare for next month's start of the 2018 Legislative session. Issues including tax reform and so-called backfill payments were two topics of discussion Wednesday at the Iowa Chamber Alliance's legislative luncheon. On tax reform, Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix said lawmakers need to provide tax relief that actually means something to iowans. He also addressed backfill payments, which are monies received by cities in order to make up for lost property tax revenue. Dix wouldn't guarantee anything as he reminded attendees that lawmakers have to fix a budget deficit.
