Iowa voter registration is at an all-time high for the December before an election year. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says there are 1,991,419 registered voters. He says the numbers show Iowans are "engaged in the process.” Ninety-three percent of Iowa’s eligible population is registered to vote. 604,493 voters are registered as Democrats, 653,032 as Republicans, and 721,344 claim no party affiliation. Fewer than 10,000 voters are registered to other parties.
