A house fire in East Ames is under investigation. The Ames fire department says in a news release they responded to the blaze at 121 Kingsbury Avenue around 2:15 Wednesday morning. Crews found a significant amount of fire around the front door but were able to contain the flames to the basement and first floor. The department adds the resident was alerted to the fire by a "popping" sound but no injuries were found after being evaluated at Mary Greeley Medical Center. They say the home had no smoke detectors.
