The director of Iowa's Department of Human Services says negotiations with AmeriHealth led to a delay in disclosing the company was exiting the state's Medicaid program. Jerry Foxhoven told lawmakers he was hopeful his department and AmeriHealth could find a way for the company to stick around, but it didn't work out. AmeriHealth told state officials that it would no longer be involved in the Medicaid program in late September, but the announcement was made on October 31st. The department said earlier this week that on December 1st, UnitedHealthcare of the River Valley will get the more than 200,000 patients currently served by AmeriHealth.
