My love affair with the Ames community began when I was the ripe old age of 9 as we drove up old highway 69 on our way to visit my uncle in Blairsburg. I suddenly delared from the back seat of our ’53 Plymouth, “ This is where I’m going to live when I grow up” From then on when ever we would drive through my parents would laugh and ask how my hometown was looking. When I finally moved here 44 years ago there seemed to be an invisible barrier between the University and the City proper with little cooperative effort between the two, my how things have changed. One hand now washes the other in providing opportunities and appreciating each other’s contributions to a well rounded total community. It is in that thought that I hope you take the opportunity to enjoy this years homecoming and come to the Parade this Sunday on Main Street beginning at 2pm, I’ll be announcing…
We are ONE!
