Anthem Anger

As some of you are aware I worked as a free lance sports producer for several syndicators over the years, ESPN Regional, Fox Sports, Raycom Sports, Creative Sports etc… In the beginning of my stint in sports it was emphasized that as I was doing my pre game show  to make sure it timed out to include the National Anthem, a long standing broadcast tradition. Somewhere along the way someone had the thought that instead of the Anthem they could sell a couple of more commercial spots and make more money thus the Anthem was eliminated. Don’t get me wrong, there were objections, mainly from the relatives of the band members families who enjoyed the occasional glimpse of their child’s mug as they played. In retrospect why weren’t we angered then as our opportunity to honor our country was sold for a few pieces of silver. Bring back the Anthem during broadcasts, it seems the proper way to honor the country and sacrifices made so these events can take place.
