The Ames Police Department says a newly-installed traffic light on S. Duff Ave. seems to be having the desired effect since becoming operational Tuesday. Cmdr. Geoff Huff says the light is creating needed gaps in what was a steady steam of traffic. He says it'll take some time to determine how well the new lights and a new median will stem an increasing number of traffic accidents. The city's Traffic Division will monitor the signal's timing and make adjustments to maintain the flow of traffic.
