DNR issues wastewater warning

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is advising people to stay away from the East Nishnabotna River in Shenandoah for the next few days.  A system failure at the Shenandoah wastewater treatment plant allowed partially treated wastewater to be discharged into the river. Until the repair is made, the DNR recommends avoiding contact with the East Nishnabotna west of Shenandoah for 48 hours after the discharge ends.  Farmers downstream should find another source of drinking water for livestock.
