Another dry week

Cool, dry conditions mean more days in the filed for farmers, but it was Iowa's driest week since mid-June.  The USDA says the statewide average rainfall was just over a tenth of an inch last week.  The norm is nearly nine-tenths of an inch for the week.  At Fairfield, the rainfall total combined for June, July and August was only 3.5 inches.  That's the lowest summer rain total in 137 years of record-keeping at that location.  The Ottumwa airport recorded even less rain for the summer with just under 3.4 inches.
