An Ames School Board candidate says she's a target of racists. Monic Behnken, who is African-American, says a sticker was placed on one of her campaign signs by the same white supremacist group that hung unauthorized posters on the Iowa State campus last fall. On her campaign Facebook page, Behnken wrote she wept after seeing the sign because her children also saw it. She says she also wept for a city that has to host that kind of hatred. Behnken says her friends removed the sticker and notified Ames police. The group's posters on campus last October claimed that white people would become a minority in the US in the coming decades. The Ames School Board election is next Tuesday.
