Ames superintendent says PPEL worth $4 million to district

The superintendent of Ames schools says renewing the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy would have major financial ramifications for the district. Voters will decide whether to extend the fund another 10 years during the Sept. 12th school board election. Tim Taylor says the PPEL fund puts about $4 million in the district's general fund every year. He says it was instrumental in paying for the district's one-to-one computer-student initiative, and annually covers costs for building maintenance and improvements, and can even be used to buy band instruments.
