The Ames Police Department says international students at Iowa State continue to be victims of phone scams. Cmdr. Geoff Huff says a student lost more than $3,000 this week to a scammer posing as a law enforcement agent who told the victim they faced arrest if they didn't buy scores of gift cards. He says their outreach message doesn't seem to be getting through to potential victims, so they're asking for help from local retailers--asking them to call police if they think a scam is happening in thier stores. Huff says scam victims at ISU have been taken for more than $13,000 since the start of the fall semester.
