Another online publication has good things to say about Ames. Schools.com ranks Ames 10th on its list of best college towns. The website says Ames ranks high in the percentage of population between the ages of 20 and 34. It also has a high percentage of residents 25 or older with at least a bachelor's degree. The site says Ames remains an appealing place to live after graduation, ranking in the top 10 in availabile affordable rental housing. Schools.com ranked 170 college towns with populations less than 150,000 people, looking at criteria like unemployment rate, median rental cost, concentration of bars and restaurants, and population of young adults. Ithaca, NY was number one in their rankings.
