Iowans are speaking out against the largest proposed health insurance premium increase in state history. Iowa Insurance commissioner Doug Ommen held a public hearing over the weekend in Des Moines to take comments about Medica's planned 57 percent premium hike for 2018. Ommen told the crowd at the Mercy College of Health Sciences he will make a decision on the increase within a few weeks. Ommen says he's limited by law to judging insurance rates based on whether they're justified to cover a carrier's risk and pay out claims.
