The latest drought monitor update shows conditions worsening, especially in southern Iowa. This week's report shows extreme drought near Ottumwa and south of Des Moines. The surrounding counties are experiencing severe drought, while a small section of northeast Iowa near Decorah has been added to the moderate drought range. Little rain is in the forecast for the state's southern counties.
