Second "Rummage Rampge" deemed a success

City of Ames and Iowa State University officials are celebrating what they say was a very successful second-year Rummage Rampage.  Sustainability Coordinator Merry Rankin says the six-day long event, designed to repurpose furniture, small appliances, and other household items, kept 39 tons of material out of the city's waste stream and raised $14,000 for non-profit organizations. Rankin says less than 1,500 pounds of unusable merchandise was sent to the landfill after the Rummage Rampage--less than two percent of the overall donated items.  She says planning is already underway for next year's event.
