Drought hits Iowa crops

Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey says cooler temperatures last week were welcome, but the lack of significant rainfall means drought conditions remain for many parts of the state.  The most severe drought is found in much of south-central and southeast Iowa.  Topsoil moisture levels declined to 24 percent very short, 32 percent short and zero-percent surplus.  Corn condition declined with 53 percent rated good and eleven percent excellent.  Soybean condition rated only 50 percent good and nine percent excellent.
