Another incumbent Ames City Council member has officially announced a re-election bid. First ward member Gloria Betcher confirms in a news release she'll seek a second term in November. She'd verbally announced her intention to run at an Ames Chamber of Commerce event last month. Betcher says she's worked to strike a balance between sustainability and growth in housing and wants to continue to voice neighborhood concerns as enrollment at Iowa State pressures the city's affordable housing stock and neighborhood quality of life. At-large member Amber Corrieri announced her re-election bid last week. Rob Bowers and David Martin are vying for the Third Ward seat being vacated by Peter Orazem. Victoria Szopinski and John Haila are running for mayor after Ann Campbell announced she won't seeking another term.
