State wants new sexual harassment trial

Attorneys for the State of Iowa are asking for a new trial in the lawsuit brought by a former Iowa Senate GOP communications director.  Kirsten Andersen won $2.2 million last month after a jury sided with her in a sexual harassment lawsuit.  The Iowa Attorney General's office says the verdict was excessive.  The AG's office also said the jury may have been moved to make an emotional verdict thanks to statements made by Andersen's lawyer during closing arguments.  If it can't get a new trial, the state is asking the judge to reduce the size of the verdict.
