Police agencies in Ames and across the state are getting ready to host National Night Out events Tuesday. National Night Out is celebrating 34 years of bringing neighbors together, with most communities hosting block parties or other events. The Ames event will be held at Bandshell Park from 5:00 to 8:00. It will include games, a dunk tank, and tours of a police car, ambulance and fire truck. Police and other first responders will be visiting neighborhood parties throughout Iowa. Organizers say reinforcing the relationship between neighbors and police is essential to fighting crime.
