Weeks-old baby dies of meningitis

A West Des Moines mother is warning parents to be vigilant about who comes in contact with their babies. Just hours after her 18-day-old daughter died from a form of meningitis, Nicole Sifrit posted the news on her Facebook page.  Both parents tested negative for the virus and it's believed the baby came in contact with someone who had a cold sore and touched or kissed her.  Her parents took her to Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines when she was a week-old because she stopped eating.  She was transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City, where she died.
