More than 14,000 athletes will descend on Ames this weekend for the 2017 Iowa Games. Iowa Sports Foundation Chief Operating Officer Kevin Burke says while this weekend gets most of the attention, the three-weekend event started last Saturday with a triathalon, road race, and other events in Ames. He says the Iowa Games has nearly quadrupled the number of sports it features since its humble start in 1987 from 16 to 60. By the way, Burke says soccer is by far the Iowa Games' most popular sport with more than 170 teams competing at three venues in Ames.
