Iowa is one of 18 states suing the Trump administration for changing an Obama-era rule that allowed some college students to avoid paying their student loans. Iowa attorney general Tom Miller yesterday signed on to a lawsuit challenging whether the U.S. Department of Education can reverse the 'borrower defense' rule. The rule essentially granted a waiver to people who said they were duped by a for profit college into taking out large student loans for essentially worthless degrees. A lawyer for the Department of Education dismisses the lawsuit as 'politically driven' by Democratic attorneys general.
