Story County Attorney To Run For Full Term

The Story County Attorney has made several changes to her office in the 10 months since being appointed to the position and wants to make even more if she's elected next year. Jessica Reynolds announced last Saturday she'll run for a full term next November. She says her office has applied for a Department of Justice grant to establish a drug court in Story County in hopes of diverting non-violent offenders into treatment instead of prison. Reynolds says domestic violence is a big priority and wants to make sure cases are prosecuted even when victims fear cooperating with law enforcement. Reynolds also plans to again push for changes to the state's hit-and-run laws in light of the death of an Iowa State student who was hit by a Cy-Ride bus. She's optimistic a new law will pass the next legislature despite a proposal falling short this year.
