An Ames woman has been convicted of voluntary maslaughter in the death of her husband last fall. Candace Cummings was found guilty Wednesday at the Story County Courthouse in Nevada. The jury deliberated two days after closing arguments Monday. The 36-year-old Cummings was charged with 1st degree murder for killing Harland Cummings in October. He was shot in the head while sleeping. Defense attorneys claimed Candace Cummings was abused by her husband for years. Prosecuters argued she gave in to the stress of wanting out of the marriage, compounded by financial troubles. Cummings will be sentenced July 17th.
