DHS faces lawmaker scrutiny

Some lawmakers are back in Des Moines Monday to examine the state Department of Human Services. The House and Senate Government Oversight Committees are meeting in a joint session to discuss the recent deaths of two teenagers. The adoptive parents of Natalie Finn of West Des Moines and Sabrina Ray of Perry face multiple charges as they're accused of severely abusing and neglecting the girls. DHS director Chuck Palmer is retiring later this month, but both committee chairmen say "the process of overseeing children placed in the state system must be examined."
