Ames using goats to control weeds

The Ames Parks and Recreation Department is trying a novel idea to control weeds at Ada Hayden Heritage Park. Parks superintendent Joshua Thompson says they've brought in goats in an effort to limit noxious and invasive weeds. He says the department was skeptical when the "Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park" board the idea first suggested using goats but more research convinced them to try it. Thompson says 30 to 40 goats will graze a two-and-a-half to three acre area in the southeast portion of the park. that area will be blocked off by an electric fence.
