Ames fireworks still require permit

Anyone looking to set up a neighborhood fireworks display in Ames will need to rethink their plans. Police Cmdr. Geoff Huff says despite a new law legalizing fireworks in Iowa, an ordinance in city code says anyone who wants to use fireworks has to have a permit from the city.  Huff says the city's working with the State Fire Marshall's office on the possible sale of fireworks in Ames.  A handful of Iowa cities have opted out of the new fireworks law, banning their use within city limits.
