Council takes first steps on Edwards park

The Ames City Council took the first steps Tuesday to adding the former Edwards Elementary School site to the city's parks system.  The school district will turn over the property to the city after the building's been demolished and the site's determined to be "clean and green."  Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham told the council there are property line and other issues to be resolved with the school district and people who live near the building. He says a pair of parking lots on the old school site will be left after the building's taken down. Edwards Neighborhood Association spokesman David Martin says more than $100,000 in private donations are paying for the building's removal.
