The Mississippi River at Burlington is close to cresting. The latest update from the National Weather Service puts the river at 17.01 feet Wednesday in moderate flood stage. It's only a foot short of major flood stage but is expected to only rise to 17.2 feet early Thursday morning before receding. The river isn't expected to fall to minor flood stage until Sunday or Monday.
