Ames named Iowa's top tech city

The Technology Association of Iowa says the city of Ames is Iowa's technology community of the year. The group held its 12th annual Prometheus Awards in Des Moines Thursday to highlight the work being done by tech companies in the state.  In it's citation, the association says Ames is home to dozens of technology businesses, and that Iowa State University and DMACC's Hunziker Academy make a talented workforce available to those companies. The group also gave credit to ISU and the Research Park for encouraging economic grow by promoting entrepreneurship and helping technology businesses thrive. Ames beat out Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, the Des Moines metro area, Spencer and Urbandale for the community of the year award.  Also, the Technology Association of Iowa gave a pair of awards to Ames-based animal health company GlobalVetLink for agricultural technology company and small- to mid-size company of the year. The Technology Association of Iowa is a member-driven advocacy group focusing on attracting and supporting tech companies in the state.
