An education spending plan starting its trek through the Iowa Legislature calls for more spending cuts. A House subcommittee advanced the $908 million bill which would spend just over two-percent less than the last education budget. Iowa State University's Sustainable Agriculture Center, and the University of Iowa's Flood Center wouldn't get any state money under the proposal. Republicans say the budget deals with the reality of having to spend less money while Democrats say higher tuition will come if the budget passes.
