City Council accepts Lincoln Way study

The Ames City Council voted Tuesday to accept a months-long study on one of the city's busiest thoroughfares.  A consultant's study breaks down Lincoln Way into five distinct areas from west to east.  City Planning and Housing Director Kelly Diekmann says the one area that calls for the broadest changes is the so-called "Downtown Gateway" area where public-private partnerships could be used to spur development, including the addition of more parking. Second Ward Council Member Tim Gartin doesn't want eminent domain used to accomplish that development. The council directed city staff to treat the study as an advisory document for future development, opting not to amend it into the Land Use Policy Plan.
