The Iowa Legislature's scope of work was narrowed by Friday's second funnel deadline. This week, the Iowa House can only consider Senate bills and unfinished business...and the Senate will work on House bills and unfinished business. That meant committees had to work overtime cranking out legislation sent over the rotunda from the other chamber. Several issues have survived, including a bill that would dissolve the Des Moines Water Works. Also alive is a proposal to make abortions illegal after 20 weeks of pregnancy, as well as "stand your ground" legislation. A bill banning traffic cameras hasn't passed through a house committee yet but that and many other issues could still be alive if GOP leaders take the proper steps.
