I have always found myself curious as to how people react to certain situations, so in my boredom yesterday I decided to do a simple experiment. I had to run several errands last evening so my locations varied giving me a cross section of several ages. It was very simple, it was raining and I pretended to be having difficulty with my umbrella. The first was a bus stop on campus, as I struggled to get it open a young lady stepped near me to use her umbrella to shelter me and a young man who was soaking wet offered to give it a try, after it opened I was given explicit instructions as to how it worked and I shared it with him until the bus came. As I was walking Main street I ran across several people and used the line "My wife told me to carry this umbrella but I'm still getting wet!" The umbrella was in my hand but not open. Two people laughed, two other's learned how to walk faster to distance themselves from me. Why I do this sometimes baffles me and my reward I'm sure will be a spring cold, but the smiles were worth it.
