House Democrats Release Rebuttal Memo

The Democrat's rebuttal memo to the Republican House Intelligence Committee dossier about the FBI's Russia investigation has been released. The ten-page memo was released with redactions following weeks of political wrangling between the committee's top Democrat, Adam Schiff, the White House and the Justice Department. The memo shows there was ample evidence to warrant the wiretaps on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page.

Politico reports the memo shows that the FBI was already investigating members of the Trump team when they received a dossier of allegations about Donald Trump’s ties to Russia.

According to Fox News, Adam Schiff said the memo shows there was no "evidence of illegal, unethical, or unprofessional behavior by law enforcement."

"Our extensive review of the initial FISA application and three subsequent renewals failed to uncover any evidence of illegal, unethical, or unprofessional behavior by law enforcement and instead revealed that both the FBI and DOJ made extensive showings to justify all four requests."

The memo also points out that the original request to surveil Page, and the three renewals were approved by four separate judges who were all appointed by Republican presidents.

The White House called the memo a "politically driven document" that failed to "address the fact that the Deputy FBI Director told the Committee that had it not been for the dossier, no surveillance order would have been sought."
