It has been reported that our city has issued permits to sell fireworks from 10 temporary stands. My understanding is the state issues the fireworks permits and the city issues vendor permits for them to be able to sell. This continues to support a ridiculous ordinance of selling something that you are not allowed to use in City limits. I fully understand the concerns as far as the danger of fireworks and consideration for those who live around us but if this holds true why make readily available the product by which this ordinance can be violated. The absurdity of selling these and not expecting them to be used borders on unbelievable ignorance, not to mention the waste of law enforcements time in any effort to enforce it. My prediction is a noisier 4th of July within the city limits and emergency rooms will be no busier than usual.
