Why did it take this long?

The global governing body of swimming, FINA, issued a ruling against Trans Swimmers, saying that they cannot compete unless they completed the process before the age of 12.

This is in response to Lia Thomas, the trans swimmer who won the NCAA Championship in March.

The backlash has begun, and some critics of the ban say that "everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect."
