(West Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa educators who teach about agriculture can apply for grants to help expand their projects.

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation is offering teachers $250 grants for classroom resources, guest speakers, field trips, and other projects. 2022 grant recipient Pocahontas Elementary teacher Amber Evans said the grant brought agriculture "to life" for her her students.

"Through our grant, students were able to learn about plant lifecycles, pollination, milk production, and coding,” said Evans. “I knew that just because my students live in a rural community doesn’t mean they understand the agriculture happening outside the city limits."

Preschool through 12th grade teachers, librarians, afterschool program coordinators, and Homeschool Assistance Program organizers can apply. The deadline for applying is January 9th, 2023. The proposed project must take place between January 15th to June 3rd, 2023.

Up to 180 grants will be issued across Iowa.
