(West Des Moines, IA) -- Onions sold at Hy-Vee stores between August 13th and September 1st are part of a national recall, due to possible salmonella contamination. Hy-Vee says three-pound bags of yellow onions are part of the recall. Hy-Vee's asking consumers who still might have the onions in storage or freezers, to toss them out or return them for a refund.

Hy-Vee says it was notified by its supplier Capitol City Fruit that in August the grocer had received a shipment of onions that are part of the recall. The potentially impacted onions would have been sold at Hy-Vee stores between Aug. 13 and Sept. 1, 2021.

The affected onions are no longer available at any Hy-Vee stores.
