New Data Shows Iowa's COVID-19 Rate Starting to Fall

DE MOINES, Iowa - Iowa is no longer one of the top states for rising COVID-19 rates.

Rankings from the New York Times, which are based on data from Johns Hopkins University, show Iowa has a sharply dropping number of new cases.

Iowa ranked as high as number three in the country for percentage of new cases in recent weeks.

The state has been removed from that category, and is now listed as one of only two states or territories with a falling number of new cases.

New daily COVID-19 cases peaked at almost 5,500 on November 13th, but have dipped as low as less than 2,000 in recent days.

Governor Kim Reynolds was upbeat about some recent virus trends at her Tuesday press conference, noting hospitalizations have recently started to drop.

Deaths have also started to tick down a bit after peaking at 32 on November 21st.
