Early Voting in Iowa on Record Pace

DES MOINES, Iowa - Early votes in Iowa are being cast a record pace.

More than 685,000 absentee ballots have been received thus far. Those include people voting by mail, or in-person at county auditor's offices satellite locations.

Democrats hold a sizable edge, having returned 51 percent of the early ballots compared to 31 percent for Republicans. People claiming neither party's affiliation account for 18 percent of the ballots.

The largest number of absentee ballot requests and returned ballots are from Congressional District 3 (180,173), which includes the Des Moines area. The fewest number of early ballot requests and returns are from Congressional District 3 (148,566), which includes much of rural western Iowa.
